Then focusing in on the Mary Gregg collection at Manchester Art Gallery:
As I knew i would be leading on to answering this brief in knit, I started to create layered mixed media pieces which i hoped would help to inspire me when it came to the making process.
Whilst looking at the Mary Gregg collection and trying to decide where i wanted to go with it, i became very attached to an eroding tin tray:
Looking at the tray i began to think of words such as Decay, Eroding and Deterioiation. In my sketchbook I began to try and bring more textures to my work to show the idea of these words. Ripping into paper, builiding up layers:
I then began to think of transparecy, and the levels mounting in the tin.
Following looking at layers I still wanted to focus on the word deterioate so I looked at stripping back colour:
This is the first time I have experimented with knit, and learnt how to knit. I tried to create holes in my piece to show a sign of deterioation, creating ladders. The colour scheme is supposed to tie in with the colours of the tin tray:
